Pet rescue from Afghanistan a question of priorities
Sometimes you see a news item and you wonder if you’re hallucinating. What is going on here?
News came this week that a plane load of about 300 pets had been rescued from Afghanistan. About equal numbers of cats and dogs landed on a charter flight in Vancouver on Tuesday.
Meanwhile there are people left behind in Afghanistan, people who supported Canada’s presence there. Some of them are still hiding out, fearing for their lives. Our government pledged to bring in hundreds of refugees from Aghanistan.
That’s not to slight the pet rescue which was done under the auspices of the SPCA in Canada and their equal in Afghanistan. By all means, but it does bring into question how we can’t come to the aid of fellow humans who are in grave danger, but we can bring out a charter load of pets. VIDEO COMMENT

It's easy for politicians, they can spend what they want because somebody else will pay for it – the taxpayers.
Well done Merv & Marg
Nanaimo is still a good place, but the powers that be have let it run to ruin. This is sad to see.
i agree it is the volunteers in Nanaimo that make it such a wonderful place to live. I've lived all over B. C. and came back to Nanaimo to raise my kids and join the family business. Never any regret
Thank you Mr. Peckford for voicing concerns that many Canadians share, but remain silent.
